I became aware of two things today.
One—Suspiria is being remade. This was not surprising. Was it disappointing? I don’t know. I feel like it’s a waste of time to get upset at news of remakes. There is no stopping them. It’s like complaining you’re wet while drowning in the ocean. Suspiria’s new director is an Italian man by the name of Luca Guadagnino, whose previous credits include a bunch of films I’m not familiar with. However, the cast for this remake is particularly promising, with names like Dakota Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Tilda fucking Swinton. It’s also reported that Jessica Harper (Anke from the original film) will be making an appearance.
Now, the second thing I learned today is something you probably already guessed from the headline of this article. Thom Yorke (of Radiohead) will be scoring the soundtrack for this film. Which…is kind of cool? Listen, mention Suspiria to anybody and there’s a good chance the first thing they think about is Goblin’s iconic soundtrack. It’s one of the best goddamn horror scores ever recorded. Will Yorke come up with something even better? Probably not, but I do believe he’ll do the film justice. There are a lot of Radiohead tracks out in the wild that would fit comfortably among a horror fan’s library. I think Yorke’s the perfect musician for the job.
(Okay, those Stranger Things guys might’ve been a better idea, come to think about it.)
